My Way of Looking at English Text Recitation Since I was a middle school student, my English teachers often compelled students to recite the English text.At the very beginning, I did not understand why I have to recite the text when it has been explained and has finished? I have memorized the English words and acquired the knowledge of grammar, haven’t I?
As time went on, I have memorized a great deal of texts and I became aware of a fact that teachers’ requirement is not meaningle at all.Reciting English text is the key to learn English.Here is my opinion about the reason why we need to recite the English text.First, it helps students to learn more new words and to extend vocabulary quantity.Many students give up studying English because they think the words are difficult to memorize.Why their rate of forgetting is high? The reason is that they are used to memorizing words by their poor method of learning by rote.However, reciting English texts makes up sentence with words in oral English and written expreion skillfully.In another word, reciting can enhance the sense of language and improve the ability of oral expreion.Therefore, it's a good way to learn new words and increase our vocabulary.Second, it is beneficial to develop a habit of thinking in English so that we can feel English with our heart.I find students are in mother language thinking, that’ s why many of us often have grammatical errors when
writing and speaking.It seems to me that, if the English text has been understood when we finished memorizing it, the grammar and the sentence pattern will be printed in our mind easily.In this way, it will be very easy for students to have a good command of English grammar and syntax, and gradually understand the British mode of thinking.Third, it can help to improve our ability on comprehensive reading.All of us will meet some sentences that are hard to understand from the beginning.In this case, teachers usually ask us to ignore and then memorized them.As we have accumulated English knowledge, not only have we improved thinking ability, we also learn to summarize, analysis, judge, so that we can improve various aspects of English expreion.It has been improved that the students, who recited fewer texts in oral English ability, understanding and written skills.So, I think reciting English texts is very important for our English learning.But, what should we pay attention to before reciting texts? I'd like to put forward the following propositions for your reference only.First of all, we need to master the pronunciation of the new words in the text in order to avoid incorrect pronunciation.If there are too many words which we didn't know before, our confidence might be dampened.Therefore, we can listen to recordings or listen to the teacher carefully when they are reading loudly.These models can help us students to learn correct pronunciation.At the same time, we need to pay attention to the
intonation, streed and unstreed syllables, so that we will strengthen the rhythm of reading and heighten the effect of recitation.Then, when we are faced with long sentences, the first step is to find correct method of pause.English is different from Chinese.A quantity of sentences is so long that sometimes a long sentence can even become a paragraph.Thirdly, reciting English texts is not only mechanical repetition.English text reciting must be based on understanding.Before we recite English texts, we should understand the full meaning.We should understand the grammar and sentence pattern in the text;make clear about the inner link and relationships between contexts.It can not only get twice the result with half effort, but also can avoid rote phenomenon.Last but not least, the learning motivation is not what teachers asked us to do, but the interest of learning English.In the term of psychology, anyone's result of study will bring both external and internal stimuli.For instance, you have memorized a poem and then your mother might praise you a piece of chocolate for it.But do you noticed that after you finished reciting an article, your heart will be full of' happine or be in favor of English? In the same way, when you finished memorizing an English text succefully, you are likely to be ready for reciting another text.That's what the interest means.Only when this interest acro your English learning could you find that English is so relaxed and easy.Practice has proved, during the English text recitation, the more methods of memorizing English texts we mastered, the more sentences we owned for expreing our ideas.By doing so, there will be more flexible, selective expreion pattern;there are very strong interests in learning English.So that students’ ability of English speaking and reading comprehension can be trained better.Therefore, I think that English text reciting is worth being strongly advocated
