Movie review------GuaSha
After watching the movie Guasha, I want to talk something about the culture difference.There are cultural conflicts and cultural convergence going together.In the movie, the leading role is Da Tong, he tries to integrate his Chinese cultural beliefs into his daily American reality, for example they speak English at home, they use forks and knives and they eat Chinese style food.All this can be done in their private life and they are all used to this kind of life style.But they are in a different culture, Chinese culture like guasha which can’t be approved by the west actually.In the court, Datong loses his mind so that he finally loses custody of his son which made the whole family shocked and sad.In the end of the movie, Datong mies his son so much so he pretends to be Santa Claus climbing along the water pipe to his house on the ninth floor.This scene shocked me and I was impreed by it.After the movie, I think a lot, I think the pipe is not only a pipe but also a deep gap between American and Chinese culture.He wants to climb over the gap and he will never succeed.This is caused by the different culture, there is a famous saying ’there are two freedoms----the false where a man is freedom to do what he wants, the true where he is free to do what he ought.’ Of course America is the true freedom country.Therefore something they think normal in our view seems to be abnormal.In my opinion, compare with the culture between Chinese and the west, the same thing is that love is the most important thing in the world.No matter how it is reflected, we will always impreed by it.So we should do some more to communicate with each other, reconcile and learn from each other makes our world more beautiful and harmonious.
