The Day After Tomorrow My favourite movie is The Day After Tomorrow.The Day After Tomorrow is a 2004 American science-fiction disaster film that depicts the catastrophic effects of global warming in a series of extreme weather events that usher in a new ice age.It did well at the box office, groing $542,771,772 internationally.Domestically, it is the sixth highest groing movie in the US box office, and worldwide, it is second behind only Ice Age 3.The movie was filmed in Montreal, and is the highest groing Hollywood film in history to be filmed in Canada(if adjusted for inflation).I’m deeply shocked by it.The hero of this movie,Jack Hall, is a paleoecologist who found that the earth might go into another ice age in one thousand years or just one hundred years.Jack presented his findings on global warming at a United Nations con-ference in New Delhi where diplomats, including the Vice President of the United States, were unconvinced by Jack's theory.The Vice President of the United States only attached importance to developing the economy and industry，so he thought nothing of what Jack said.Just after the conference, Jack met a profeor of ocean who held the same view with him.The old profeor soon found the temprature in the sea was falling rapidly.Jack helped him analyse the data, surprisingly finding that the result was like prehistoric climate.Soon after that,the old profeor died in the big snowstorm.With no reacion,the disaster had come quietly.Jack advised all the people south of latitude 40'N should go south but the Vice President was still against him.At last ,the President of the United States agreed.Survivors in the Northern United States were forced to flee south , with some Americans illegally croing the border into Mexico.Meanwhile,Jack’s son ,Sam , was in New York City for an academic competition with his friends Brian and Laura , where they also made the
acquaintance of a student named J.D..As the storm worsened in Manhattan, they were trapped in the New York Public Library.On the last phone call,Jack told him to stay indoors and to do his best to make himself warm.Jack also made a promise that he would come to save him.Many people in the library began to go out to flee south,ignoring Sam’s warning,and finally died in the storm.The people left began to light books to make themselves warm,waiting for Sam’s father.After advising the Executive Office of the President of the United States to evacuate half the country, Jack set off for Manhattan to find his son, accomp-anied by Frank and Jason.Their truck crashed into a snow-covered tractor-trailer just past Philadelphia, so the group continued on snowshoes.During the journey, unfortunately, Frank fell through the gla roof of a snowbound shopping mall and lost his life.At the same time, The U.S.President's helicopter was fatally caught in the superstorm, leaving the U.S.Vice President in charge.After going through much difficulty, Jack as well as his partner finally arrived at the New York Public Library.They got into it to search for his son, surprisingly finding some firelight behind the door.It was a moving scene when Jack and Sam saw each other again , with everyone there shedding silent tears.Jack soon got in touch with the Vice President and three helicopters were immediately dispatched to rescue them.When the helicopters reached New York City with their big noises, many people in other buildings who survived the disaster heard this and they climbed onto the top excitedly.It’s lucky for so many people to be alive.At the end of the movie, the new president not only made a contrite public apology to American people for his wrong policy but also said that the
government would correct mistakes from then on.All the debts of Mexico were released by American government to expre their thanks for taking them in.I’m deeply fascinated by this movie because I think it has three highlights.The first is love.Jack’s son , Sam, fell in love with his clamate Laura.When the floods came, he didn’t run away at once but to go back to save Laura.When Laura was ill, he did his best to find medicine for her no matter how cold and dangerous the outside world was.Another kind of love is the unconditional love of a father for his son.When Jack knew where Sam was, he insisted that he go to save him without any concern for his own safety.Whatever difficulties he faced, he never gave up.Their stories finally moved the God and they were all safe at last.Another highlight is about the government and the relationship between the two countries.When the government realized its mistakes, it had the courage to make a public apology to its people but not to make an excuse or to conceal the fault.When the disaster came, Mexico has taken Americans in and sheltered them in their time of need.It shows the harmoniousne between countries and all over the world.The third and also the purport of the movie is environmental protection.The film is a science-fiction disaster film that depicts the catastrophic effects of global warming in a series of extreme weather events that usher in a new ice age.At the end of the movie, the new president of America said,” These past few weeks have left us all with a profound sense of humility in the face of nature‘s destructive power.For years, we operated under the belief that we could continue consuming our planet’s natural resources without consequence.We were wrong.”
