The House on Mango Street is a novel by Mexican-American writer Sandra Cisneros, published in 1984.It deals with a young Latina girl Esperanza Cordero,growing up in Chicago with Chicanos and Puerto Ricans.The novel consisted by short paages full of beautiful and childish words mainly tells growth, viciitudes and happine of life and dreams of youths.The words of The House on Mango Street are as pure as clear water.It describes a pure and beautuful world in a children’s heart.However,it sometimes seems to have profound philosophy.There are some beautiful sentence such as:
“You can never have too much sky.You can fall asleep and wake up drunk on sky, and sky can keep you safe when you are sad.Here there is too much sadne and not enough sky.Butterflies too are few and so are flowers and most things that are beautiful.Still, we take what we can get and make the best of it.”
When I’m sad or fidgety, reading the novel can make me feel fine.译文：
