After reading the The Great Gatsby, I can’t help thinking that what if Gatsby did’t die but was put into the prison at last.I will not say that’s a better ending for Gatsby, but it will be a better ending for me to accept.I say so not because in that way Gatsby can at least be alive, but I think it will be a better publishment for the cruel Daisy and Tom.If Gatsby did’t die, instead, he was put into the prison, if the media kept reporting about the accident and people kept condemning Gatsby, butGatsby still raped for Daisy reluctantly, then can Daisy and Tom still live on themselves so easily?? I think them may not, at least not for Daisy.Gatsby’s death actually was a liberation for Daisy and Tom, two cruel men all the way.For Daisy and Tom, in my eyes,Daisy is even more cruel and hypocritical than Tom.I think she only loved for Gatsby for a movement,that is when she got Gatsby’ letter.After reading the whole story, I am sure if Gatsby was not a commander when Daisy met him, she would not fall in live with him, if Gatsby was not such a rich man five years later when Daisy met him again, she would not say“I love you now, isn’t that enough?” The truth will be “Not even now.” Daisy is a material girl and also a coward who does’t even deserve Gatsby’s love.The
author once said in his book Jordon is a girl who will never
stand in a disadvantaged position, but I think Daisy is more such a girl.She was tied of waiting the poor Gatsby, so she married the rich Tom;she was not satisfied with her marriage five years later, so she enjoyed the big parties that Gatsby gave her;she was such a coward that she finally abandoned Gatsby when things happen and went back to the man she used described as revolting.Gatsby’s tragedy lies in the fact that he know Daisy is such a girl, but he still loved her with all his heart.He know that her voice was full of money, but he still chose to make money for her and seek an impoible ending.He should have known that Daisy was not planning at all.Yeah, his tragedy is that his obseion on a green dream that is doomed to break.No matter for the all kinds of people who came to his party, his illegal busine, his big and empty house,or for Daisy, all these are in fact colorful foams under the sun in that summer, it will break soon finally.Tom is right, Gatsby,on one hand, and Tom and Daisy on the other, are different,.Gatsby struggled and entered Daisy’s world for a while, but left nothing in Daisy’s world and finally was out of their world peacefully, like his funeral.Gatsby is great because he dares to create a dream that
