Reflections on Reading The Catcher in the Rye When I first heard the name of the book，I thought it must be a book about a guide in life，such as a person who lead us out troubles，or an incident which always inspires us to pursue dreams.But the content of the book struck me greatly first.On the one hand，I was attracted by the tone and the person and life in the book.On the other hand，I can not see any link between the name of the book and the content of it.Then I read it again and read a number of reviews.Gradually I understand why it is named The Catcher in the Rye.If we stuck in failures one day，which one encourages us most：the person once failed or the one never failed？Anther question：When we get in trouble，which one upsets us more：the trouble itself or the lonely feeling to suffer all by oneself？Sometimes we can not go through the downs of life not because the trouble is such terrible that defeats us but mostly because we are quite fragile to bear the frustration and the loneline alone.We hope and desire to be understood and to be with someone, expecially when we are depreed.One day we cry about a special thing and regard it as an unconquerable and unforgivable.Another day After we have heard someone else once had the same problem like us，We may think it not a big deal and laugh.What Holden encountered may happen to many of us：the failure to pa some subjects even dismiion，the frustration to lose someone we care，the disappointment to let parents down.All these things lead Holden to be despair，and he even thought about to run away from home.Once the cliff was right in front of him.He had been there, and known all the feelings.If someone is a Holden-like guy，hopelely to be kicked out of school four times and robbed by a prostitute，he should know he is not alone.All shall past, and tomorrow is another day！
For people who is not exactly like Holden，it is also a great book.It is a book about youth.When I read the book，it makes me to look back upon our own youth：all the horsing-around-tricks，stink habits and lies and so on.Whatever kind of experience we once had could all be reflected in the book.The way Holden thinks and behaves surely makes him a special boy but also a typical adolencent kid.He could be everyone of us in youth.Although he is not good at staying in school to get graduated，his love for his family is obvious.Allie，D.B and Phoebe were all always in his mind.Allie’ baseball mitt，the one with the poems on and his red hair and all Allie’ stuff were gone with that summer.We could find Holen mied him，which made him more lonely.The feeling of losing the beloved one and bearing them in mind naturally will touch every readers.Besides Allie，his elder brother D.B is mentioned in the book now and then.We can see what a great effect his brother leaves on him：his talent for literature.I even think when Holden grown up into an adult，he would be an excellent man like D.B.The thick bond with his mother is not revealed vividly in the book.As for the adolencents’ relationship with one’s mother，the closene isn’t expected usually，instead the coldne and resistance is more common.On the surface，Holden was kind of away from his parents；he was afraid of returning home and tell them the truth.While through Holden’ attitudes to the brand-new ice skates，a present bought by his mother, and his words about his clamate’ s mother，the profound love is imparted indirectly.Mother are all slightly insane.You take somebody’ s mother，all they want to hear about is what a hot-shot their son is.（P276）He knew his mother' s expection and he was afraid to let her down.Another one he mumbered all the way was Phoebe.I think no one would dislike a baby girl like Phoebe.An elfin-like girl always made him concerned and finally became a strong connection to the family.if there were no Phoebe，maybe the story would turn out to be a sad ending.With Phoebe，it was proved that Holden was by natural a simple boy.What he was doing was just a part of grouping up.They may attempt to drag a suitcase to a place far off but at the end the truth is that they were willing to stay for love.Youth is partly about breaking away from family or school or other bonds，meanwhile it is about love，besides love for family and friends, the affection for the opposite sex is special.Young love is unforgettable for everyone.Hesitation for a buzz，always lack of right mood，bad dates and curiosity about mystery sex，all remind us of the youth.It is sort of childish，but everybody really enjoy themselves.No matter how complicated our life will be，there is a period of old time telling us we have been ignorant and simple-minded，at the same time fearle and brave，which encourage us to move forward in the future.During the time Holden wandered outside the school，his emotion became down in the vally，and droped by several places，with all kinds of people around，still feeling miserable and so desperate as to talk to Allie.Of all those people，the two nuns，Sally，Old Luce，the guy that plays the piano for old Valence，the hat-check girl，never forgot to tell the lost kid to go home, which is moving.Life journay is full of croings and turnings.We all want to explore freely but not be lost.Sometimes we even don’t realize the edge of a cliff is under the foot.It is appreciated that there are such people there.Besides them, Mr.Antolini and old Spence，his two teachers, show their concerns as well.For Holden，a rebel student，growth is a disaster in a way.He had to abandon so much：his stubbornne，cynical thoughts and idealization.He may lose direction, therefore there is need for this kind of help to show him the way and accompany him patiently.Painfully he would learn to accept the social rule and face the reality as an adult gradually.Reading the book is like a recollection of youth and a chance to grow up again, which is definitely rewarding.作者：张丽
