Oliver Twist was born in a workhouse, and when he arrived in his hard world, it was very doubtful whether he would live beyond the first three minutes. Finally Oliver drew his first breath, but his mum died.Naturely, he became a workhouse orphan.Mrs Mann frequently beat him and kept for her own use the money that she was given for the children’s food. His spirit was so strong to be probably the reason why he managed to reach the age of nine at all. Then he was taken a first job to make money for Mr something who was one member of the board in workhouse. He worked for the undertaker and his meal was some meat the dog left.So lonely and afraid as he was, treated rough by two made a wicked plan to drive out Oliver. After the plan completed, he couldn’t stay there any more an managed to go to London. On his route, hemade a friend with Jack Dawkins. The later offered him food and swelling place.Unfortunately, the friend of his was a member of criminal gang who could easily steal the people’s wealth.Fagin was the head of gang who was glad to welcome Oliver to encourage him to be petty thief. At last, one morning came when Oliver was allowed to go out to work with the two boys.Jack Dawkins put his hand in an old gentleman’s pocket, took out a handkerchief, and handed it to another boy.Suddenly, Oliver knew the mystery of the handkerchief, the watches and the jewels. He chose to run away because of his fear. The old man suspect he was the thief and shouted loudly: "stop thief!”.Then people in the street joined in the chase with enthusiasm and soon attracted the police. The old man forgave Oliver in the police station and took him to his home.Fagin was perturbed to send the girl Nancy to find out the information of Oliver in the police station.Fagin was hateful to regain Oliver that his secret won’t be let out.He had way to send Oliver attend to another robbery and Oliver was caught.During that time, Nancy was guilty to cheat the old man and Oliver. She furtively ran to tell the old man of the truth and was killed after her divulging a secret. When Monks who was Oliver’s consanguineous brothers was caught by the old man’s justice friends, the whole thing came to light. He wanted to own legacy alone so he made a deal with Fagin to let Oliver a guilty. At last, the criminal gang was destructive, Oliver made a happy life.同时代作者及作品:Charlotte(1816-1855), She attended Roe Head school between 1831 and 1832, and then taught at the same school later in the decade. From 1839 to 1842 she acted as governe, then went to Bruels with Emily for language training at the Pensionnat Heger but returned later in the year after her aunt's death.《Jane Eyre》Emily Jane(1818-1848), She attended Roe Head(in 1835)but returned to the rectory due to homesickne.Subsequently, like her elder sister she became a governe and then left for Bruels to study French, German and music, similarly returning at the end of 1842.She seems to have been the most introspective of the sisters, having very few friends.《Wuthering Heights》3 Anne(1820-1849), she, the youngest sister was also educated mostly at home, although she joined Charlotte(by then a teacher)at Roe Head in 1837-8.She too became a governe, actually for some time longer than her elder sisters. This employment including a five-year spell at Thorp Green Hall where her brother Branwell became a tutor(he was justly fired for having relations with his employer's wife, having already lost his job on the railway for culpable negligence).《Agnes grey》
Oliver Twist 读后感:
《Oliver Twist》reflected the actuality of life.Charles Dickens showed the criminals’ authentic appearance and disclosed terroristic and violence hidden in the small、dirty and remote street of London. So the devil Fagin, ruthle Sikes and a crowd of thieves、robbers were described vividly. These men cheated、stolen and robbed everyday, they were frightened to be put into prison and hang to die.Writer managed to illustrate that the kind could overcome every difficult.Oliver Twist, an orphan, thrown in the world which was filled with poverty and crime, stood for starvation and lived strongly by himself.Nancy who was also important to turn up lived in a cruel world. On one hand, she couldn’t cheat for herself, and was an honest. On the other hand, she struggled to be royal to her lover. As I expected, kindhearted finally defeated the devil.
