After reading the novel The Old Man and The Sea
The novel tells a story that an old man almost sixty years went to sea and fished alone in Santiago.The old fisherman had got nothing for eighty-four days and he almost died because of hunger.However, contrary to common people`s thought, he did not give up.In the eighty-fifth day, he fished a huge marlin whose body was eighteen feet in length, 1500 pounds in weight.The fish was so large that none of the Santiago`s fisherman had had got one.The old man fight with the large marlin for 3 days without any food, water and arms, and finally killed it.But, in the back journey, lots of small sharks ate out the marlin.As a result, the old man came back Santiago with the big marlin skeleton frame.I think every reader will be deeply moved by the old fisherman as me.On the one hand, I am sympathy of his failure.On the other hand, I have a great esteem for the old man`s persistence and courage.Although he became old and failed, he still made great efforts and showed a positive attitude on failure.The novel shows us an outlook on life of striving——faced with the unconquerable nature, humans still can win in spirit.Maybe the result is failure, in the proce of striving, however, we can see a man of indomitable spirit.
