area.It is located on the edge of the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau and the Sichuan basin.Its name Chongqing in the literal sense of the word means double celebration.Chongqing is a mountain city.It contains the Daba Mountains in the north, the Wu Mountains in the east, the Wuling Mountains in the southeast and the Dalou Mountains in the south.The Chongqing city is very hilly.The hill is in the city and the city is on the hill.Chongqing is also a city of water, which intersected by the Jialing River and the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.Besides these two rivers, we have Qujiang River, Fujiang Hall.Let’s walk through the doorway please, now we can see an archaized ethnic architectural complex in front of us.This is one of the symbolic buildings in Chongqing, which named Chongqing People’s Grand Hall.It was designed in the traditional style of Ming and Qing dynasties palaces.Among the 43 Chinese contemporary architectural projects enlisted in A History of Architecture on the Comparative Method, which is a well-know book published in the United Kingdom, the Chongqing People’s Grand Hall is ranked the second place.Now we go up steps to the first platform to get closer to the hall.We can see that the building is symmetry in its structure.The auditorium consists of 3 parts: the great hall, the North wing and the south wing on each side of the hall and an east wing was added to it in 1986, the pailou archway by the street.The round roof with its green glazed tiles makes the building looks like the Temple of heaven in Beijing, the porch in front of the hall with its red columns and white marble rails reminds people of the Tian An Men gate in Beijing.The grand dark-green, colored glaze decorated roof.long corridors with white stone balustrade and red pillars.You may be amazed if you walk closer to see it.Perhaps there is no other architectural view in china that will impre so deeply on you like this one Now, let us continue to go upstairs and step into this grand hall to have a close visit to it.The hall was built in the 1950s, covering a construction area of 18,500 square meters.The highest point is 65 meters and the hall is 55 meters high.You can see there are 5 levels.4 of them are taken into use.It can contain a 4000-seat auditorium.The building is imposing, beautiful and magnificent.The hall gives a perfect expreion to the traits of the contemporary architecture: first, of the inner hall is only 46meters, but can hold more than 4000 people.Second,sturdine.It has a history of more than 50 years without collapsing.Third,economical efficiency.It took 47.3 billion yuan at that time equal to more than 4million RMB now.Even though it is not a lot of money now, but it is a large amount of that at that time.In order to build the hall, almost every one of Chongqing people had contributed money and labor to it.So it is really the hall of people.Fourth, pretty and elegant.The hall looks in great harmony.The hall is built to pray that the country
