Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!Welcome to Hangzhou!I’m very pleased to introduce the West Lake for you.There goes a saying ,“Above is heaven, and below is Suzhou and Hangzhou”.Hangzhou has been praised as heaven on the earth since ancient times mostly because of the West Lake.The lake has a water surface of 5.6 square kilometers.It has an average depth of 1.5 meters.Several creeks empty themselves into the West Lake, so the water is always clean and clear.The West Lake is divided into five sections by two causeways, the Bai and the Su.It is surrounded by hills on three sides.Only the eastern side borders the city.There are four islands in the lake.Also, there are some pools on the island, which form a miniature lake, so it seems an “islet in a lake within an island in lake ”.Besides, there are more than 40 scenic spots and 30 protected sites of historical interests.After you have a clear idea of the layout of the lake ,I’ll show you around the beautiful lake and take you to the major tourist sites.First, we’ll visit the scenic spots around the lake, including “Remaining Snow on the Broken Bridge”, “Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake” , “the Gushan Hill” and “the Louwailou”.Then we’ll visit the Santanyinyue Island.Now, we are at the end of the Bai Embankment.In front of us is an elegant bridge, which is called the Broken Bridge.It is said that the Broken Bridge had been set up at the time of the Tang Dynasty.As the sayings goes, “The Lone Hill is not lonely, the Broken Bridge is not broken and the long bridge is not long”.I know you will ask me why it is called the Broken Bridge since it is not broken.In fact, the Broken Bridge was an old stone arch bridge.It is the best place to enjoy snow in winter.When the sun rises, the snow on the south side of the bridge will melt while the other side is still covered with snow.Looking from afar, the bridge is like a broken bridge.Here is Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake.I t is simply the name given to the island park which is embellished with delicate pavilions , zigzag bridges, fascinating rocks and exotic trees and flowers.It is so named because in the pavilion over there the great poet Baijuyi of the Tang Dynasty would take a rest after drinking a little too much, and watch the moon over the lake.Well, we’re going to visit the Gushan Hill.It joins the Xileng Bridge in the west and the Bai Embankment in the east.It is formed by the explosion of a volcano.The emperors of different dynasties took the place only for their own use.In China, emperors exclusively call themselves Gu, so it si called Gushan Hill.Now, we’re paing by the Xileng Bridge, you can see a white marble statue of a lady in the back of the hill.Her left hand is on the waist and a sword in her right hand.She is Ms.Qiu Jin, who was the women liberation pioneer fighting against the Qing Government and finally was arrested and killed by the Qing Government.We’re heading slowly to the east.On the right of the Xileng Pre, there is a building with a mixture of Chinese and West styles.It’s the well-known restaurant called Louwailou.It was built in 1848 and started to receive foreigners in 1952.You can enjoy delicious food-West Lake Vinegar Fish which is the famous fish of the restaurant at your convenience.So much for the lakeside scenery.Here we are at the the Santanyinyue Island.There are 3 small pagodas on the lake.The pagodas are unique in shape.The lower part of the pagoda looks like a ball, and the top of the pagoda seems like a calabash.And there are 5 small holes in the pagoda.What’s more, more beautiful scene appears in the evening.At night when the full moon shines, people would light the candles and put thin paper on the outlets of the holes.The glimmering light will shine through the paper.Then you’ll see a spectacle of 32 moons at the West Lake.I’m not kidding.Sometimes people burn the candles in the 15 holes on the 3 pagodas and present you with the image of 15 moons.The 15 moons are reflected in the lake and you’ll see 30 moons in the water.In addition, plus the one in the sky and its reflection in the water, there are 32 moons altogether.Actually, there’s only one moon in the sky and others are all the reflections of the moon and pagodas in the water.Now we come to the biggest pavilion on the West Lake.Have a west here and we will meet in 15 minutes.
