City civilization Have you ever heard that history is the record of civilization growth? City civilization symbols how developed a society is.Imagine yourself standing on Shanghai’s tallest building, admiring the fast transportation and flashing light of cars and constructions.However, compare this with the following situations.Have you ever noticed walls covered with all kinds of graffiti, or bubble gums and cigarette ends all over the pavements? When you take the underground to school every day, crowds of people may just push to get on, leaving you alone “banged” outside the carriage.These may seem common in our lives, but have you ever thought of how these happen? Now I’d like to explain the problem and solution about city civilization in two questions.First, what’s wrong with the city civilization? Second, what attitude should we have on those problems? Let me first tell you a story of myself.When I was young, I used to live in the countryside with my grandparents.With so many friends and relatives in the neighborhood, I was always happy, free and relaxed.However, I always dreamed of being in the city, with modern buildings, various lights and fancy shops around me.When I was six I got my wish because my parents took me to the city where they worked.At first, I was amazed by all these things that I had dreamed about.However, as time paed, the busy pace and few relationships slowly made me feel like being isolated on a lonely island, tired and depreed, and I start to dream about the countryside again.When you walk in the street, citizens only get ahead of you and hurry to their destinations, neighbors and friends live far apart and nobody would talk with you even in such narrow room like elevators.Now that after ten years’ life in Shanghai, I don’t even know who my neighbor is, while such situations seem so incredible to anyone in the country.While the hardware of the city, including science and technologies is getting more and more developed, the link between persons, by contract, is getting weaker.As a result, people tend to think about civilization as the material benefits rather than behaviors.So that leads to my second question what attitude we should have towards city civilization.The troubles in city civilization of our society influence every citizen including you and me.If we don’t find a solution now, the imbalance will only get worse in the future.Did you know Shanghai used to plan to provide free toilet paper in public toilets? However, the plan was cancelled after only one week’s putting in use.You know why? It had been estimated that the government had to pay an extra 12,000 yuan per toilet each month for the pilfering behavior of citizens.Citizens in Shanghai seemed to love that paper in toilets that they took away the whole roll!Can you imagine? Taking a roll of toilet paper from your Shanghainese comrades in their time of need? Civilization can be simply explained as a combination of everybody’s responsibility on order.As it is known by everybody, good manners in public places can bring everybody, including yourself a feel of satisfaction, while uncivilized behaviors may cause people to get in bad mood.And to us, we all know that doing something kind and good-mannered may not cost much in our daily life, but it will indeed give others great comfort and help.There’s a topic on hot discuion these years in my country.If an elderly trip and fall in front of your eyes, will you support him with your hand? Those who want to vote for “yes” please raise your hand.All right and what if he blamed you of pushing him to fall afterwards? Yeah, that’s a tough question on your ethics.Anyhow, this is a problem about when civilization don’t work, how we should behave.I know not everyone agrees, but I believe that we all need to act more civilized if we want to live in a civilization.In summary, city civilization influences us all.Discuing the problem of city civilization is not a waste of time, if we don’t deal with it our time will be wasted.Although it doesn’t work all the time, we can still do something simple to help improve our lives in cities.Wait patiently while lining instead of cutting to the front, set the mobile phone to silent mode while watching a film and cough with your hands on your mouth… A thousand streams make an unstoppable river.City civilization can be easily changed if we all take actions for it.Let’s make our walls and streets clean and tidy again!
