Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.My name, an English teacher from The Shipping Management Department.My topic today is “I know how to make them succeful”.There are many definitions of succeed, so I’d like to make a definition of succe in learning English.Personally speaking, if my students like learning English, pa the examination organized by the MSA(The maritime safety administration)and get the Certificate of competency, they’re succeful.I’m glad to talk about how to make them succeful.First，teachers should help students self-confident.Most of our students have failed in English learning when they come here, so we need to make them be self-confident.I always tell my students English they can learn English well if they just do what I tell them.I would tell my students something about a sailor.His name is xxxxx who had paed all the examinations organized by the MSA for one time.His education background was grade two of primary school.He couldn’t recognize Chinese phonetic symbol and some Chinese characters, not
mention English.Every of our students’ English is better than him.How could he pa the examination and get the Certificate of competency? He had done what I told and he succeeded.What I tell students is “try your best”.It’s easier said than done.They should work hard and try their best.Second, teachers should encourage students.I always praise a student even if they made a little progre to encourage him.Every time student answered a question correctly, I would praise them by “very good, excellent, well down, and fantastic” and so on.At that time, they will have feelings of succeful.Third, teachers should make students be interested in English.In order to develop their interests in learning English, I’ve organized different kinds of activities.For example, I often ask students to perform what we have just learned in front of the claroom.I often ask a student to read loudly and others follow him.Or invite a student to ask another student questions.They just play the role of the teacher.These are what I have done, and the Shipping Management Department has organized a competition named “Happy English” for several years.Students
enjoy such activities.They need to be recognized for what they do and praised for their efforts and participation.They can get succe from the proce of activities.Fourth, teacher should be patient.Teacher should give students time to digest.It may take some students’ longer time to comprehend what you have explained several times.I always give my students time to read and recite.At the same time, I’ll correct their provocation.In summary, a teacher should love students.He should make students be self-confident, develop their interest, encourage them and be patient.That’s all of my speech.Thank you.
