Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, kind judges.Self-awarene is the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual, separate from the environment and other individuals.Someone who is self-aware can know and judge his character well.It’s universally acknowledged that knowing oneself is a vital step towards self improvement.Self awarene like everything else should be used appropriately.Not having the capability to be self aware, or the overuse of the function could both lead to their own kinds of problems.Sometimes we need to focus on the task in hand and we should not focus on ourselves too much if we want to complete any such task efficiently and without hindrance.But, if we focus too much on how others perceive us and our own image then this could lead to paranoia and an unhealthy and obseive outlook, or should I say inlook.However, if we are never self aware then we would not have the faintest idea how others view us, this could lead to all sorts of problems.Problems with simple communication, problems building and sustaining long term
relationships;and also inter personal iues at work or in our place of study.Some may perceive us in a positive way, some may perceive us as negative and others may not be particularly interested, this is normal.But to neglect any serious attempt to perceive ourselves or to over emphasize the importance of introspection are equally foolish.Being overly positive or negative in our evaluation of ourselves is also a pitfall.Being overly positive could lead to us being viewed as an egotistical idiot, while being overly negative could mean we’re seen as a grumpy person.However, we can hopefully realize a few simple truths.For example, if I talk too much I should be self aware enough to close my mouth occasionally, and if I never smile then I should be self aware to smile occasionally.But should we always be self aware? Self awarene is useful in moderation, just like anything else.Too neglect it completely is to be like an emperor walking around naked but to overindulge is to be a self obseed paranoid fool.If any of you are familiar with the old American science fiction movie The
Terminator then you will know that Skynet was a computer system in control of the American military.Skynet became self aware and decided that humans were its enemy and that the human race should be destroyed.So, if machines can become self aware in the future then how about animals?
Are animals self aware or is self awarene one of the defining attributes of a human being? Could a goldfish be self aware? Maybe he can, but not for very long if his memory only lasts for 2 seconds.Is the donkey standing outside the restaurant near the north gate self aware? Does he know his fate? Who knows? However, we should be self aware.
