Dear friends,It is an honor for me to aume my responsibilities as the newly elected president of
Beijing University of Chinese Medicine(BUCM).I’d like to give my respects and gratitude to all of you for your dedicated support for the development of BUCM and the advancement of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).Over the past five decades, BUCM has established itself as a top university directly under the Ministry of Education and has been appointed as a participant in the “211 Project” and “the 985 Project Innovation Platform”, two national development projects committed to achieving first-rate education and scholarships that meet international standards.The university lays a solid scholastic foundation, strees openne, values the academic legacy of the TCM canons, and gives equal importance to teaching reform and the development of academic disciplines.With coordinated development of teaching, research, clinical practice of integrative medicine and diemination of TCM culture, BUCM has witneed unprecedented dynamism in international exchange and cooperation in the field of TCM.It has become the home of tens of thousands of TCM profeionals from 89 countries and regions around the world.One challenge facing the diemination of TCM culture is the reality of constant scientific advancement, which neceitates the updating of TCM knowledge and research.However, academic independence, freedom and openne cherished by those dedicated to TCM will always be the driving force behind the innovation of this subject and its distinct heritage.From a broader perspective, the spiritual wealth and academic achievements of TCM should be shared and enjoyed by all in this global village.International exchange and cooperative efforts with TCM should be further strengthened in order to promote the introduction and expansion of the subject in a manner that is conducive to an inclusive and open academic atmosphere, and contribute to the welfare of the international community.The presidency of this university signifies a great new role for me, involving solemn promises and challenges.I am full of hope that BUCM will make great strides, and TCM will have a brighter future, with greater international exchange and cooperation thanks to your dedicated support and earnest collaboration.Let us work hand in hand and write a new chapter in the well-being of mankind.Prof.Xu Anlong
