“Guanxi” Hampers a Clean, Fair System In China, “guanxi” is a well-known noun for nearly all people and it exists in every field.Many people love it as it can bring them convenience and benefits.However, the majority of people take it as a dirty thing because of its unfairne.This kind of unfairne grows continuously with the development of the whole society.Gradually, the society system will be covered with a blurry atmosphere.Then how will “guanxi” hamper a clean and fair system? Here are three areas where “guanxi” is playing a pernicious role.As a junior student, I have strongly recognized that to find a job is right there under my nose.So workplace is the first area that I would like to talk about.When a graduate is going to hunt for a position in a certain company, he will make himself prepared with a fine resume, formal clothes and a deep desire to get the job.He gets the highest score in the written examination and performs well in the interview, but he is not the one wins the battle eventually.Another young man succeeds in getting the chance just because he has “guanxi” with the manager.Even though he is lucky and qualified enough to gain a job somewhere else, he still needs to be very careful about what we call “guanxi”.Imagine that he is competing with his colleague for a big project.If his colleague has some relationship with that client, he will not get the project no matter how hard he tries.What a pity.Then let’s move to official circles.In this kind of area, the atmosphere is even more dreggy and the harm more serious.A common mid-level government official owns power as well as money.What’s more, his family will be benefited because of his position.When choosing subordinates of his own, he will probably open a
backdoor to his relatives or friends.As a result, some other people will be forced into an unfair situation.That is how he treats people with no ability of resisting.But unlikely, if he wants to climb higher on the ladder of his career, he has to get some achievements or satisfy his leader, which is more important than any other contribution.In this relationship, bribery won’t be more common than normal contacts.Then he can get what he wants while other clean-handed officials are still struggling on the line.Maybe it is easy for us to understand a corrupted official but not a football player.There have been a number of reports revealing that some football players or even teams are cheating in games.Most of them are promised to gain some money or other busine benefits from the power behind the throne.It happens between referees as well.What they do makes the match out of its original pleasure and meaning.We should firmly object to cheating in football match which deviates from profeional ethics.While money can create “guanxi” and keep it afloat, it can also overturn it.To be honest, a society which is full of “guanxi” will step into a terrible situation.What we should know is how to keep it balanced with cleanne and fairne.“Guanxi” will not be beyond someone forever only if he is determined to strengthen himself since priority is always held in his own hand.
