Protection?
The debate on economic development and environmental protection has become an ongoing debate for nearly 60 years, which has stirred up heated responses from different countries.Considering the superiority of offering jobs, enhancing the quality of life and promoting economic development, some people firmly believe that economic development is more important while others argue that it’s our obligation to protect the environment in the long term.In fact, when it comes to the quality of human life, the scarcity of the resources and ecosystem diversity, we should realize that the priority should be given to protecting the environment.As the problem of protecting environment or developing the economy is still under dispute all over the world, some people argue that the development of economy has elevated living standards for many people in the developing countries, providing benefits for the poor in those countries and keeping them free from starvation.Neverthele, we cannot ignore the fact that developing economy one-sidedly does not necearily eliminate poverty and it has led to various environmental iues and social problems in the past 20 years.Although the economy has grown in many developing countries, the problems of pollution and polarization have also occurred there since the development of economy.Furthermore, there is also some significance of protecting the environment when we discu the priority of choosing environmental protection or economic development.In the past hundred years, the pattern we depended on to develop our economy was based on the ample resources, which has given our economy a chance to grow quickly yet is confronted with receion because of the shortage of resources.Moreover, due to some unsustainable methods of economic development such as reliance on foil fuels, deforestation and waste accumulation, plenty of industrial countries have painfully been punished by the nature, warning us of paying more attention to the environment in our daily life.Therefore, it’s neceary for us to place the environment ahead of the economy, even if it risks economic growth.In order to achieve sustainability in the future as well as conserving the forests and woodlands for future generations, there needs to be some measures on technologies that increase the efficiency of using the resources and reduce dependence on foil fuels, which can be realized if the rich developed nations are willing to share some of the wealth they have achieved with the developing countries.
