七 作文测试概述

作文测试是一种语言产出能力的测试，便于考查考生综合运用语言（包括词汇、语法、篇章、语用等方面）的能力，这种测试的效度容易得到保证。

一些大规模的考试都设计了作文测试，特别是那些考查高等级语言能力的测试。一般认为，语言产出能力的形成比语言理解能力要晚，所以在一些考查初级语言能力的测试中没有作文测试，如HSK初中等、HSK基础。

对测试的设计者来说，作文测试实施的困难主要在于如何有效地保证作文评分的信度，另外，作文评分的阅卷组织也有困难，阅卷的工作量也很繁重。因此，作文测试在大规模测试中所占的试题比重、分数比重都不很大。作文能力描述

 只测试作文能力

写作文涉及考生关于作文话题的知识（content knowledge）、语篇知识（discourse knowledge）、语言知识（linguistic knowledge）等，甚至关系到考生的想像力、逻辑思维能力、思想品德、世界观等。但作文考试的考查的重点应该是考生的作文能力，主要是与语篇知识和语言知识相关的技能。

考生面对一道作文试题，写作文前通常要解决两个问题：一是“写什么”；二是“怎么写”。前一个问题涉及考生关于作文话题的知识、考生的想像力或思维能力、思想品德、世界观、立意等，后一个问题主要涉及语篇知识、语言知识等。好的作文题应该让考生不用花太多的时间和精力去考虑写什么，而主要让考生把精力放在怎么写上。

许多作文试题的描述语或提示语用的是目的语。如果因为描述语或提示语过于复杂，就势必影响考生作文能力的发挥。这时影响考生作文水平的一个重要因素就是考生的阅读能力。为了减少阅读能力对作文测试的影响，可以从以下几个方面着手：

 在命题时尽量用简单的语言表述题目的要求，避免使用过于复杂的词汇、语法结构或表达方式；

 可以通过图画、表格等直观的手段来提供作文材料；

 可以用考生的母语或共同的媒介语来表述题目的要求和话题。

 对考生的作文加以必要的控制

作文试题除了在功能、体裁、话题、对象等方面对考生的作文进行限制以外，有时还对考生作文的长度、写作文的时间、作文的结构等方面进行限制。所以，在语言测试中采用的作文测试通常叫受限作文（guided / controlled writing）。

例 2003年1月 CET6作文试题：

Directions: For this part, you are allowd thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic: It Pays to be Honest.You should write at least 150 words according to the outline given below in Chinese:

1.当前社会上存在许多不诚实的现象。2.诚实利人利己，做人应该诚实。

这道题从以下几方面进行了控制：  作文时间（30分钟） 作文长度（150 words） 话题（“诚实”）

 结构（中文提纲 注： 提供中文提纲主要有两个意图，一是避免部分考生受阅读能力限制看不懂英语提示；二是防止部分考生直接把提示写进作文）

 体裁（议论文） 基本观点（“诚实利人利己，做人应该诚实”）作文测试的方法

作文测试通常采用直接测试，但有时也采用间接测试。

 直接测试

直接的作文测试就是要求考生根据一定的要求写作文。目前，许多大规模的语言测试（特别是面向中高水平考生的语言测试）都采用这种测试方法。

这种测试方法能够真正测试考生的作文能力，提高测试的有用性（test usefulne）,对语言教学也能产生积极的反拨（backwash）作用。

 间接测试

间接的作文测试是对考生词汇、语法等与作文有关的能力进行测试，进而推测考生的作文能力。

这种作文测试主要有三种形式。

 选择类题型 包括正误判断题、选择题等。 控制题 包括改写、填空、续写等。

 组合排序题 这种题可以要求考生把一组词或词组排列成一句话，也可以把一组句子或段落排成一篇文章。在用句子组成篇章时，考生可以对材料进行适当的改写或增删。

这种间接的作文测试题在目前的一些大规模测试中主要安排在语法结构、改错、综合填空等部分中。有人曾研究TOEFL的structure and written expreion 部分的得分和作文得分之间存在很高的相关。（Spolsky, 1995: 327）这表明，用间接的方法也能测得考生的作文能力。

但只采用或过多地采用间接的作文测试，对教学容易产生消极的反拨作用。

直接和间接的作文测试不是对立的，有时在作文测试中兼而用之。例 1990年1月 CET4：

作文测试的评分主要有整体/综合评分和分项评分两种方法。 整体/综合评分（holistic scoring）

这种评分方法要求评分者通读作文，再依据评分量表（scoring scale）或评分细则（scoring rubric）对作文进行评分。

评分量表或评分细则通常说明文本一共可以分几个等级，并对每个等级进行描述，不同的测试关于作文等级的描述详略有较大的差异，但一般都涉及内容、结构和语言等方面。

 大规模作文测试评分的实施

 制订评分细则，对评分标准进行详细解释；  在评分开始前，用体现不同分值的评分样卷对评分员进行培训，只有在评分员真正能领会并运用评分标准之后，正式评分才能开始；  每篇作文至少由两名评分员独立评分，如出现差异，应由第三名权威评分员裁定；

 评分应该在同一时间和地点集中进行，以排除其他因素对评分过程的干扰，并保证评分者能严肃认真地对待评分工作；  阅卷组组长应该对评分过程进行严格检查，以确保每一名评分者都能自始至终严格遵守评分标准；

 对正在进行的评分过程应该进行评价和记录，以便对不合格的评分者进行再培训或者停用。
