Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!I come from No.2 Middle School.It is my honor to be here to give my speech.My topic is “ How to reduce the students' anxiety in their speaking activities.The reason why I choose this topic is that in the teaching practice, I have found that my students are not very confident in speaking.We must admit that excellent English grades doesn't mean all.They may be very good at English writing, listening, and so on.However, when it comes to speaking, things are quite different.Even if they have their ideas, they do not know how to expre themselves fluently, or when they decide to speak out, they are frustrated by the mistakes they make.It seems that speaking is pretty difficult for them.It is widely believed that speaking plays a more and more important role in English learning as well as the practical communication in our daily life.The final aim is to communicate.That means we must pay more attention to speaking in our English learning.Let me show an example.Here is a letter of invitation in Using Language in Unit4(Page 30)of Book 1.Each student is required to read it carefully and imagine that he or she is the student who has been invited to give a speech.After reading the whole text, the students meet the speaking target, that is, a speech full of thanks should be given.In the text, some helpful clues have been offered already.The students should make full use of these clues.Here may arise the problems.Some students often show these clues without their own ideas.Enriching the language should not be ignored.For example, we can enrich the speech by developing the clues, such as the first one, ”Thank those who work hard to rescue the survivors.“ can be organized like this, ” I wish to expre my thanks for the great help of the policemen and red-acro.Many of them came from different places and worked day and night.Some of them even became ill, yet they made no complaints and continued to work."
In fact, we can work with our partners and try our best to create more ideas.The more ideas, the more we can expre.Only when we are well prepared for the topic can we speak more.Next, the teachers should encourage the students to show themselves in speaking.We should tell students that do not be afraid of mistakes.As long as they begin to speak out, they are sure to make progre in their speaking abilities.So in my opinion, speaking abilities can be well cultivated in our teaching proce as well as others.And the students' speaking anxiety can be reduced when they get more and more chances to speak.That' all.Thank you for your listening.
