Gone With The Wind was written by an American writer Margaret Michelle, who was born in November 8th, 1900, in Atlanta.Her father once was the president of the history aociation.Since 1922, she began to write for the Atlanta Daily.In 1926，she had to quit this job because her leg got wounded.Then she began to devote herself to writing under the encouragement of her husband.She spent almost 10 years in writing this novel.The novel was based on the American Civil War.It presented the social appearance of south-America and the changeable fate of all kinds of people overall in the great social reform.Gone With The Wind was mainly about the progre of Scarlett O’Hara’s growth, which was set in the Civil War.Scarlett was a daughter of a farmer in Tara.She fell in love with Ashley Wilkes, and dreamed he would marry her one day.But she heard that Ashley would be engaged with his cousin Melanie Hamilton.She couldn’t believe it.To irritate Ashley, Scarlett accepted Charles Hamilton’s propose at the barbecue party in Ashley’s house before the war broke out.Because Charles should join the army, he asked Scarlett to marry him before he left.Few days later after Charles joined the army, Scarlett was informed that Charles died of disease.So she became a young widow, which made her felt very
depreed.Her mother suggested her go to Atlanta to relax herself.She did and met Rhett Butler again, who loved her very much at first.In Atlanta Scarlett lived with Aunt Pittypat Hamilton and Melanie.Although Scarlett once hated Melanie, she tried her best to help Melanie when the army in the north-America marched to Atlanta.She decided to return back to Tara.Finally, she went back with Melanie and her newly-born son under the help of Rhett.To her surprise, she found that her village was destroyed by the army and her house owned nothing.She took her mind to survive, so she took up farming works with her two sisters and several black slaves as well as Melanie.New government was founded when the war was ended, and the government decided to increase tax.Scarlett had no idea to pay for the tax.At that time, she thought of Rhett and wanted to ask for help.But Rhett refused to help her.When she didn’t know what to do she met Frank Kennedy, one of her sisters’ fiance in Atlanta.She married Frank by hands and ran a factory.She didn’t care weather her sister would hate her.But unfortunately, Frank died in a political event.At the same time, Scarlett found that she had fallen in love with Rhett gradually, so she married him finally and lived a happy life at the first few years.As time went on, their relationships became serious.And when their daughter died, Rhett left Scarlett at last.Though everything seemed very bad, Scarlett didn’t give up.She went back to Tara again and decided to find a way to make Rhett
come back.In this novel, every personality has two sides because of the Civil War.And from this novel, we can see that Scarlett was a selfish woman.She got the things she wanted no matter what would cost.She made up herself to attract men’s attention and tried to make herself the centre of the men.She was a pride woman, and took it for granted that each man should love her.But at the other hand, she was a brave woman, she had her own thought, and her own life.No matter what happened, she always tried to find ways to solve the problems.No matter how serious the cases were, she was always optimistic and active.She was good at catching the opportunities to achieve her goals.She was full of enthusiastic and wishes to life, and she had an active attitude towards life.As Scarlett said “Tomorrow is anther day.”(On the last page, last sentence.)
