Money changes doctor-patient relationship As medical costs escalate employers and insurers are requiring individuals to pay more of the bill with increased deductibles and out of pocket co-pays.Requiring individuals to shoulder more of the financial burden of medical costs could change the way physicians practice medicine as expensive treatment options may be unaffordable even if the treatment may be the best approach.“Each year, doctors are finding more and more that patients are coming in carrying substantial deductibles and having to pay more out of pocket,” said Mark A.Hall, J.D., a profeor of law and public health in the Division of Public Health Sciences at the School of Medicine.If doctors have an open conversation with a patient who subsequently chooses to take a cheaper route, there’s little chance of a lawsuit because the choice is ultimately for the patient, not the doctor, to make.In the USA,doctors and patients have no direct money exchanges.Because of American separation of medicine, patients have to get their medicine in the pharmacys,and after they see doctors, they pay the money.Usually in a month after the end of treatment, patients receive a bill from the insurance company.When the patients pay their bills, they meet with the insurance company , even if they have complaints, patients will against the insurance companies, doctors and patients have no direct money exchanges, which reduce the poibility of friction.But in China,patients have to pay the medical bill before they get the treatment,because of the bad social environment,some doctors begin to take drug rebates,even become the implicit rule.Reason:medical fees getting more and more expensive,patients spend a lot of money in the hospital,some of them can not afford the bills so that they abandon the treatment,or they spent money but not receive the cure,so the patients and their family members think the doctors just want to get their money and do not try their best to treat them.How to deal with:more communication
