Recently, I have read a book named The Old Man and the Sea, which is writed by Ernest Hemingway.Hemingway is an American writer, he received Pulitzer Prize in 1951 for The Old Man and the Sea, and the Nobel Prize in literature in 1954.And there are many other great writers and their significant works.Among these great works, I still choose The Old Man and the Sea.This novel has a great achievements.But it is not the reason I choose it.The reason why I choose this book is because I am moved by the spirit of the old man—persistence，bravery.The Old Man and the Sea, is short but profound.Santago, a fisherman, build a sea legend to us.Even the man’s image is bigger, tougher.This book tell us a story: Santiago, a fishman, went out to fishing, he spent 84 days on fishing but have little harvest, but he didn't to give up, still persisted in fishing, eventually on the 85th day, he found a big fish whose weight was exceed 1500 pounds.And this was the beginning of a three days and three nights’ fight, the proce was dagerous and hard.But finally, Santiago defeated the big fish, the big fish was exhausted and surfaced up, finally Santiago killed it, then he wnet back.In the return journey, the big fish attracted an attack of a flock of sharks, after a long time difficult fight with the sharks, eventually Scantiago defeated the flock of sharps.When Santiago arrived at the port, only can see the white naked line of the fish’s backbone and the dark ma of the head with the projecting bill and all the nakedne between.The proce can be generalized by a few sentences, but the hardship cannot generalized by a few sentences.This is a profound claic targical novel, and it is a heroic symphony which present us a image of a tough fisherman.It is also a tribute to a hero.I can say, Santiago is a hero, he defeat the fish, defeat a flock of sharps, defeat the bad weathers, defeat the people who think he is a fuilure.“But man is not made for defeat, a man can be destroyed but not defeated.” After I read this book, this sentence is echoing in my mind.Santiago, a plain fisherman, what makes him persisting for so long? An 84 days’ waiting, an 3 days and 3 nights’ fight, an crucial fight with a flock of sharps, which experience is not bearable of common people.But Santiago did this.Even what he take back was only left the bone of the big fish, I still regard him as a winner.Nothing can stop him.Nothing can defeat him.From this novel, we can see there are many good qualities in Santiago—adamancy, persistence, bravery.This let me think of ourselves, when we do something, it not the difficulty defeat us but ourselves defeat us.It always be a brief period of enthusiasm.From this novel, we can learn more to improve ouselves.We cannot afraid the failure.There is an old saying, “Failure teaches succe.” Failure is not terrible, what terrible is yield to failure.Once you yileded, your dream cannot come ture.Now what we need do is to persist in our dream, no matter how difficult is.Life is like Santiago’s trip, we need to encounter the difficulties bravely, thus, even we fail to do it, we will not leave ourselve to regret.Life is a long journey, you never know what will happen in future, what we can do is to steadfast to work hard.Then we will be the stronger of life, and our life will be more wonderful.In our daily life, we may be confused by many things.We may lose confidence because of a bad grade of an examination;we may be sad owing to some arguments;we may dipointed by a small mistake;we may be lazy about our study.But after I read this novel, I find what I expirenced are not problems.We needn’t to earn money to rear our family, we needn’t to go fishing like Santiago, the important thing for us is to study, why this simply thing we cannot do it well.I always believe that do the right thing in right time.As a college student, we should study hard for our future, not to waste time in other things.When I see the sentence “It is really too close from here to coast, perhaps there are bigger fish in the farther place ……”, I feel ashamed and remorsed, I am young, and I have a good condition, but I have not to try my best to accomplish my dream.There is no attic faith in my heart, maybe I think no matter whether the future is bad or good, I always find a way ti lead a life.But I don’t think it deeply, does that life is what I really want.Santiago, he know what he should do, and never give up.It is not difficult for me to know what life I want, what difficult is the persistence.After I read The Old Man and the Sea, I thought a lot, maybe just something usele.But I will study to do it, to persist, to be brave, to strong, to be abament.I want myself to be my hero.So, be more hard working.英播三班
