Opening Speech of Feng Yuan: Tibetan Culture in China and Chinese Fine Arts
Rome, Italy, October 22, 2009
首先，我对“第二届西藏发展论坛”在罗马举行表示热烈的祝贺！论坛结束后，中国国务院新闻办、中国美术家协会与意中基金会还将在罗马和米兰举办“雪域高原-中国绘画作品展”。绘画展与论坛都是中意两国文化交流的重要组成部分，对于增进两国人民的相互了解和友谊具有重要意义。
First of all, I would like to expre my warn congratulations to the second Forum on the Development of Tibet held in Rome!After the forum, the Information Office of the State Council and China Artists Aociation will hold the “Snow-Covered Plateau—Chinese Painting Works Exhibition” in Rome and Milan with Fondazione Italia Cina(Italy-China Foundation).The painting works exhibition and the forum are the important parts of the cultural exchanges between China and Italy with important significance of enhancing mutual understanding and friendship among peoples of the two nations.西藏文化是中国藏民族在漫长历史进程中创造的一种文化形态。它植根于青藏高原，繁茂于与汉族等兄弟民族长达千余年历史的文化交往和融合之中。长期以来，藏民族文化与汉族文化形成了我中有你、你中有我的文化共生性和互补性，成为源远流长、丰富灿烂的中华文化的一个重要组成部分。
Tibetan culture is a kind of cultural formation developed by China's Tibetan ethnic group during the long history.Based on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Tibetan culture is becoming increasingly prosperous during the cultural exchanges and integration with other brotherly ethnics groups like Han for more than 1,000 years.For a long term, Tibetan culture and Han culture promote and complement each other, serving as an important part of the long-lasting, colorful and glorious Chinese culture.以西藏为主题的美术作品创作在内容与形式上都是在这种藏汉文化共生互补的历史文化语境中产生并发展而来的。半个多世纪以来，西藏经历了从农奴制社会向现代文明社会的历史性跨越，发生了翻天覆地的变化。中国一批又一批的藏汉画家深入西藏腹地，通过他们的亲历与各自的心灵与艺术眼光，运用画笔描绘了这一伟大历程。通过几代艺术家的努力，开创并奠基了丰厚的西藏美术主题的艺术创作传统，使得西藏美术主题不光衍化为当代中国美术创作的重要内容之一，也成为众多美术家热衷表现的题材。
The production of the painting works on Tibet is initiated and developed in the historical context of Tibetan and Han cultures promoting and complementing each other in terms of content and form.For more than half a century, Tibet has experienced the historical and fundamental change from serf society to the society with modern civilization.An increasing number of Tibetan and Han artists in China go deep into the hinterland of Tibet and describe the great progre with their painting brushes through their own experiences, inspiration and artistic vision.The efforts of artists of several generations have initiated and laid solid basis for the art tradition of painting works on Tibet.Thus, fine arts works on Tibet have become the important contents of fine arts creation and Tibet is now the theme widely presented in the works of many artists.特别是新世纪以来，许多藏汉中青年画家所创作的优秀作品，体现了改革开放后西藏地区的新变化、新面貌和新气象，成为反映当代中国多民族生活的生动艺术画卷。
Entering the new century, the excellent works created by many middle-aged and young artists of Tibetan and Han embody the new changes, new appearances and new atmosphere in Tibet region after the reform and opening up to the outside world, vividly presenting the life of various ethnic groups in China in modern age.借此机会，我想介绍一下将于23日和26日分别在罗马和米兰举办的“雪域高原-中国绘画作品展”情况。此次将展出的西藏题材美术作品，是从为数众多的西藏题材美术作品中挑选出来的优秀作品，代表着不同时期西藏题材美术创作的重要价值，这些作品在当代中国美术史上具有划时代意义和里程碑的非凡意义。此次展出的数十位中国藏汉杰出中青年画家的精品力作，无论在艺术性和思想性方面都有着无可替代的风格特征。从艺术史的各个维度相互对照来看，我们还可以从这些作品中感觉到西藏题材美术创作的衍生发展和变化轨迹，以及各个画种对这一题材的表现所呈现出的多样面貌及其特色。我认为，本次展览所包含的艺术内涵和重要的学术价值是不言而喻的，相信这些作品将给意大利人民带来美的享受和精神上的愉悦。
On this occasion, I would like to introduce the “Snow-Covered Plateau—Chinese Painting Works Exhibition” held in Rome and Milan on the 23rd and 26th this month respectively.The works for the exhibition were selected from a large number of paintings on Tibet, representing the important values in fine arts works production on Tibet in different periods of time with epoch-making and milestone significances.These masterpieces of several dozens of the middle-aged and young artists of Tibetan and Han ethnic groups have irreplaceable styles in terms of artistic and ideological contents.By comparing various dimensions of the art history, we can observe the development and changes of fine arts creation on Tibet from these works and the diversity and characteristics of various painting varieties on this theme.The artistic connotation and important academic value of the exhibition is self-evident and I believe these works will bring visual beauty and spiritual pleasure to Italian people.谢谢大家！
