The analysis of ‘I’m Nobody!’
This poem which relates to the theme Life is the 27th one of Emily Dickinson’s poem.It was written at the year about 1861, she began to live in seclusion.So this poem is likely that the author writes from her heart.From the poem, it is easy to find that Emily Dickinson was not desire to gain any reputation and she even refused any chance to let others know her.Many of her poems have reflected her thoughts of against fame and wealth, and anti-materialism.This sentence ‘Don’t tell!They’d advertise---you know!’ To my understanding, the speaker meets her fellow friend, which is another ‘nobody’, when two ‘nobodies’ meet, they can share all their similarities.But the author knows that if there is another ‘nobody’, she is no longer a ‘nobody’.In the second stanza, the tone of the author is changed.She feels confident of being a ‘nobody’.She describes somebody as a frog.It is because frogs make a lot of noise.The bog is the frog’s environment, not the frog’s friend.She rhymes ‘frog’ and ‘bog’ to describe somebody which she is making fun of.In this poem, the author wants to expre the direct meaning which is ‘be yourself’ and ‘do not let anyone try and change you, because you are unique’, and if you don’t fit in one group, you will fit in another.
