Review on “Around the World in 80 Days”
“Around the World in 80 Days” is one of the most famous science fictions written by Jules Gabriel Verne.It is a story about Phileas Fogg, an English gentleman,who wagers on traveling the world in 80 days with his friends.And after facing a lot of difficulties with his servant, Paepartout, he finally wins his wager of twenty thousand pounds.As far as I’m concerned, “Around the World in 80 Days” is like a quick song or a high-speed railway, but of course, it should be done in this way because the whole journey is a race against time.Though the transportation in this story is not new for me, I like their challenging journey, but most of all, I love two of those protagonists in this book.Mr.Fogg and Paepartout really leave a deep impreion on me.Mr.Fogg always behaves in a calm and accurate way and he is a typical gentleman with a kind heart.I admire him for his beautiful characters.His servant Paepartout gives spice to this story, and he is always faithful to his master, however, I like him because he is a person who always acts on his true colors.This novel provides me with various exotic sights and cultures.Surprisingly, it is said that, Verne didn’t go abroad while creating this novel.Some savants thought that they may come from experiences in his childhood because when Verne was a child, he talked much about the world with sailors lived near his house.Whatever, the author has
succefully described the story in a realistic way, and that is enough for me.At the end of the book, Verne asked his readers whether it is a rewarding journey for Mr.Foggy since he earns no more money during the 80 days, and finally the author answered this question by himself.“Nothing, perhaps so;nothing but a charming woman, who,strange as it may appear, made him the happiest of men!” Maybehere, Verne wanted to suggest that money isn’t everything.
