—— Something I felt after reading the book 《The five people you meet in the heaven》
It’s amazing to find out the complicated relationship between Eddie and these five persons,and when we clear such dust before us,something significative can we explore.The first person Eddie met in the heaven was a blue man ,who named Joseph Coverlzchik , was a stranger to Eddie but died for him by accident.His dead exchanged Eddie’s life,although Eddie never knew this.The second person Eddie met was his captain during the war,he was the person who factually saved Eddie but at the same time ,he was the really murderer whose bullet devastated Eddie’s thigh as well as his whole life.Eddie put all his attention to murse the perpetrator who took his thigh away but not to appreciate the saviour who gave him his second life,altough in fact they are the same person.The third person Eddie met was Ruby,the former hoste of Eddie’s workplace,she witneed the true proce of dead of Eddie’s father ,knew the truth to their awaful relationship,although Eddie never knew Ruby after years of working in the pier where named of her name.The forth person Eddie met was his wife ,Marguerite,who fell in love with him ,waited for him during the war time,devoted herself to him and forgave his betray ,and in turns,Eddie loved her all the time and never love someone else.The fifth person Eddie met was a little girl who called Tala,she was the person Eddie met when he lighted a fire on the Sundalong,and was killed by that catastrophe,however she forgave Eddie for the reason that Eddie died for a girl just like her ,and for the unaltered work Eddie did year after year to safen childen’s lives.From the statement above ,we can find something that throughout the stories and the human being touchings.It’s the connection,tolenrance and salvation.Connection.By reading the book ,we can know that, it was Nicky’s car key that leads to Eddie’s dead ,and we also can know that it was the Blue Man who saved Eddie’s life and Eddie went to this man’s funeral enforced and unwittingly.Besides,we can see that,it was Ruby ,a strager but someone Eddie should know for his years of working, told Eddie about his father as a witne.And Eddie died for an unknown little girl in the pier.These are allconnections, between people who know each other ,and who don’t know each other.As the Blue Man said to Eddie,“There are no random acts.We are all conneted.You can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a brezze from the wind.”,strangers,are just family you have yet to come to know.Tolerance.This word impreed me a lot,much better than the connection did.There are two sences about the tolerance in the book ,one is about Eddie’s father,the other one is about Marguerite.Before Ruby’s telling ,all my impreion about Eddie’s father was a violent drunk,who neglected and roared his son during hisconsciousne,andbeatedhimwhenhewasdrunk.However,things are different from Ruby’s telling.In Ruby’s statements,this old man saved the nowt who attempted to violate Eddid’s mother even if the nowt was once his old friend.This act raised my adoration to this old man because of his refined tastes.And also ,when Eddie knew this ,as well as the truth about his father’s dead and his deeply love to his family,he forgave his father.And when he forgave his father,we ,as a reader knew that ,he loved his father deeply ,much more can we image and did himself knew.From this scene ,I realized the true means of tolerance,it was that ,when we fogive others ,we are fogiving ourselves.Salvation.It was the Blue Man,the captain to save Eddie’s life by losing their lives in different scenes,and it was Eddie to save a little girl’s life by ending up his lifetime.We might feel
unacceptable when we first know these ,however,we will be enlightened after thinking about the meaning of life.As the author said,“Birth and death are part of a whole”,dead is not the end of our life but a neceary part ,we should be proud of our sacrifice,while losing is the meaning of sacrifice.When we feel we lose something,we just pa them on to someone else.
