When it comes to the field of English speech, the first person appearing in my mind is the present American president, Barack Obama.The unique skill of his speaking and the special style of his speech impreed me very much.Besides, many of his speeches, not only by the audio, but also by the video, have been considered as great materials for the speech learners to practice the skills and methods of speech.Currently, his speech material has been chosen as the learning maage in our book, which gives us a better way to analysis and understands his thoughts and consideration.Additionally, through reading and studying his material, we can know much more background information about him and his country—America, which meet the points and objectives for us English learners.The article chosen in our textbook is “A More Perfect Union”, which was delivered by Barack Obama in the course of the contest for the 2008 Democratic Party presidential nomination.Meanwhile, it was as one of the most important speeches in his presidential campaign.It was written against Jeremiah Wright’s controversial anti-racial statements, who was a retired senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago and former pastor of Barack Obama, and made some furious aertions against the widespread white racism and scorching remarks against the American government.But Obama’s speech contained more than criticisms against the pastor.Instead, he appealed to his audience to place Dr.Wright’s remarks in a historical and sociological context.So Obama felt he should more sufficiently addre and explain the context of his relationship with the Reverend.This speech “A More Perfect Union” received general response, and is regarded as one of the biggest events in his campaign, which helped him to win the election.After reading the first part of his speech material, it is safe to give a conclusion that Obama pointed out the important goal of his campaign was to continue the long march “for a more just, more equal, more free, more caring
and more prosperous America”.Through the first sentence used at the beginning “we the people, in order to form a more perfect union.”, we can see that the ultimate target for the Americans is to form a perfect union.And Obama believed deeply that as long as all Americans moved together, America can face and solve the challenges of time.It was the one aspect of his purposes.On the other hand, Obama described the racial discrimination, which still existed in the America, which can be seen in the second part of his speech.Obama discued the race iue which had taken a divisive turn in that previous week.And he pointed out that race was not an important iue that whites nor blacks could ignore.He streed the complexities of the race iue in the America by addreing the subjects of racial tensions, white privilege, and race and inequality in USA, and discuing black “anger” and white” resentment.” From this point of view, we can know that race iue is problem for the US to have the proper ways to solve.Comparing to our country, china, it also is an eential iue that exists.As we all know, our country is consisted of fifty-six nationalities, and each nationality has its own special conventions and custom.To some degree, if the conflicts between them blow up, the outcome cannot believe and think.However, our country finds a proper way to control that, so that we can have a good racial relationship.For another, we still have to pay more attentions to the racial iues, and well do the prepared task and work.On the other hand, I’d like to share some feelings or reflections on the skills of this article.As far as I am concerned, Obama’s speech laid much emphasis on the writing skills, such the formula, language, structure and content.For the language, he was used to choosing the formal words and giving more correct expreions.Most importantly, he liked to quote the sentences from other good materials or literatures.For the structure, his speeches were very rigorous and clear, powerful and affectionate, by which was expreed the use of figure of speech.We can usually see that the
