A river runs through it
To be frank, I have never interested in a literary film or the kind of biography film before.For this one of my personal tastes, I didn’t even pay too much attention to the movie “A river runs through it” at my first sight of the name.But when I watched the movie again in details, I was haunted by the beautiful scenery when the brothers are fly-fishing together in the imposing setting of the Big Blackfoot River, with the surface rippled and sparkled.Just allow me to quote an impreive saying from this movie: It is those we lived with and should know who elude us, but we can still love them, we can love completely, without complete understanding.Maybe the same is true the time when I give the movie just some deep view.It is typical kind of biography movie adapt from the biography of a profeor of British literature in Chicago University and his name is Norman Maclean.An every Christine family, father as the minister in their town, regarding religion and the fly-fishing two most important things in their life.I know little about the religion, but I can still tell the very meaning of the film.Norman and his younger brother, Paul, though they born and grow in the same family, similar circumstance, The innate traits of the two brothers differs, The big brother, Norman Maclean, who went to study at a top university of Dartmouth, was much more a conformist than his brother, Paul Maclean, who become a reporter and become addicted to gambling which lead himself to a path no way out.Paul’s innate of loving adventure and new stuffs become visible at his childhood, he wanted to be a profeion fly-fishing man when the brothers are talking about their dreams at a beautiful day.Since then on, Paul’s pursuit of adventure and new life never vanished.He has created his own rhythm in fly-fishing, he is a genius in fly-fishing.He advised his companions to go row boating one day, for the purpose to “go down in history and get their photographs in the paper.Deep into the night, they borrowed a rowboat from old man Serfert and shoot the chutes.For their innate traits and some other reasons, finally, only the Macleans brother go row boating, they damaged the rowboat and got wet through.As a consequence, they received punish from the father.The case directly led to their only
fight with each other, and from then on, they got to know their difference but they can still love each other deeply.How can you say it is not an axiom that we can love a person completely without complete understanding? I gue it were the innate traits of being different that deep-seated inside his mind that omen Paul’s fate:An artist in fly-fishing, but deeply wallowed in gambling.Personally, he has fulfilled the dream in his youth: A profeional fly-fishing man.“He is beautiful.” Just as what the father said after his death.Beside, exclude his good-looking face, the wonderful performance of Bred Pitt is really prefect.As for the big brother, Norman Maclean, he is much more traditional compared with his brother, he is more conservative and cautious.And as the very satisfactory result goes, he attained his love, family, and career.Everything in his life seems to be good but a little plain.I am not a judge or a jury, I can’t tell if Norman is good or not compared with his brother.But one thing is clear, he led his own way of life, a path that is totally different from his brother’s, a road seems to be wonderful but a little plain.The last scene I will forget is their last time fly-fishing together, just days before Paul’s death.At the first times I watch the movie, I found it nothing special, but when I give another overview to this film now and give the movie a third watching.I found it really beautiful, with same sadne mingled in it.It reminds me of their younger age when the father taught them fishing and the three fly-fishing together in the river.The beautiful memories in Norman’s mind must have lasted forever.Finally, I’d like to quote the monologue at the end of the movie to end my review.Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.And some of the rocks are timele raindrops.Under the rocks are words.And some of the words are theirs.
