Book Report on The Count of Monte Cristo The most impreive character in the novel, without doubt, is Edmond Dantes, also the count of monte cristo. He is a man who dares to love and dares to hate. When he is young and embraces a bring future, he is so naive, honest, and loves anyone. But after he is framed and thrown into prison for 14 years, what remains in his heart is only hatred and revenge. After his friend in prison, Abbe Faria dies of disease, he escapes from the prison and swears to revenge. He returns to Paris with the identity of the count of Monte Cristo, only to find all his enemies have become wealthy and respectable men in society and his love Mercedes marries one of them.At that time, he has schemed a perfect but cruel revenge plan in his heart. Not to directly stab his enemies to death but take all the valuable things from them as they did to him fourteen years ago. When he unveiled his identity before his enemies and formally takes the revenge, he is so cold-hearted without a slight of mercy. The revenge plan is full of blood and even to the degree of frightening. All this is due to his great suffering and pains in the past. However, If the count of Monte Cristo is just a machine to revenge, then he is not worthy to be admired so greatly. What imprees me more is his tolerance at last. After seeing his revenge plan has caused so much blood and misery. So many innocent men have been involved in and lose the lives. When his previous love, Mercedes begs him to stop, when his enemy, Villefort, in face of the corpses of his wife and children, says to the count of Monte Cristo, are you happy now, you have revenged so much. The count of Monte Cristo begins to ask himself whether he has gone too far and whether he is really happy after all the revernge.I am very gratified to see he releases all the hate in his heart, for in that way, he recovers his ability to love again. At last, it is tolerance rather than revenge that brings him happine.I like the character of Monte Cristo because he is a man of flesh and blood. He is so real.I like his innocence and vitality at youth.I sympathize his 14 year misery in prison.I can feel his pain in heart when Abbe Faria dies and Mercedes marries his enemy.I understand his bloody and cold revenge plan. But moreover, I appreciate and even admire him when he

finally chooses to be tolerant for the remaining love to Mercedes and the remaining kindne in his heart. In the end of the novel, the count of Monte Cristo leaves these words Live, then, and be happy, and never forget that until the day when God shall deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom if summed up in these two words-wait and hope.Hope is always a long journey and will be gradually exhausted if the waiting proce seems so long. When Dantes is in prison, he seems to have no hope at all, no hope to get justice, no hope to escape and meet his father and Mercedes. But after a long period of despair, Edmond recovers hope in his heart from Abbe Faria. He insists on learning knowledge in many fields and digging out a tunnel through the solid wall to escape just with a clip of his bed.But it is just his long endurance and wait, hope of the future attributes to his final succe. So how about us? When the hope is too slim and we are so weak, we tend to give up very easily.Perseverance, endurance, calmne are the virtues of Dantes in the proce of waiting, and just what we lack. When the situation is hopele and depreing, we should embrace the hope and continues to wait, for as long as we do not give up, then nothing could beat us.In this novel, love is through, hate is thorough, the revenge is encouraging and tolerance in the end also perserves our hope for the good human nature. If you have the same miserable experience like the count of Monte Cristo, will you tolerate your enemies at last?

En, I am not sure.I really admire the count of Monte Cristo for his tolerance despite all the deep sufferings and pain he has experienced. As to me, generally I will give the due punishment to the three enemies. But if it the revenge will hurt some innocent person and those I care, maybe I will give up the revenge.
