The Plot:
A story about a girl named Dorothy who lives on a farm in Kansas with her aunt and uncle.A tornado picks up her house and carries Dorothy and her dog, Toto, to the magical land of Oz.Oz is a beautiful but strange place, far from her home in Kansas.She is proclaimed a hero by the Munchkins, and makes an enemy of the Wicked Witch, because her house landed on the Witch’s sister.The Good Witch gives Dorothy the Ruby Slippers, and tells her she must follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to see the Wizard of Oz for help to return home.She meets the Scarecrow, who wants the Wizard to give him some brains.She meets the Tin Man, who wants the Wizard to give him a heart.She meets the Lion, who wants the Wizard to give him some courage.The Wizard says he will grant their request, but they must bring him the broomstick of the Wicked Witch.The Wicked Witch captures Dorothy and Toto, but Toto escapes, and leads the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion to the Witch’s castle to rescue Dorothy.Dorothy splashes water on the Wicked Witch, and the Witch melts away.The Wizard gives the Scarecrow a Diploma, the Tin Man a Testimonial, and the Lion a Medal, and will fly back to Kansas with Dorothy in a balloon.The balloon floats off without Dorothy, but the Good Witch tells her to click her heels together three times and say, “There is no place like home”.Vocabulary:
