I'm on behalf of international travel service and my colleagues;I would like to welcome you to Gansu.And also I would like to give a brief introduction of myself.I shall be your local guide during your stay here.My name is Dorjee Kyab, and I come from Zorgai county, Ngawa Tibetan Autonomous prefecture, Sichuan province.I grow up in a Tibetan nomadic family on huge graland.Secondly, I would like to introduce our bus driver, Mr.Tashi.He has worked for the Lanzhou Tour Bus company sice 1988.We will do our best to make during your stay here pleasant and enjoyable.I'm always on your service, so if you ned any help, please don't hesitate to let me know.I'll try my best to help you an solve the problems.I hope you have memorable experiences.Our target place is Labrang monastery.Labrang was built in 1709, and one of the six great Gelekpa sect monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism.The other five are Gedan, Drepung, Sera, Tashilumpho, and Kubum monastery.Around 1958, there are about 3,600 monks living and studying in Labrang monastery.Currently there are about 1,000.All the monks in the monastery are affiliated to one of the six colleges(Dratsang)in monastery.The largest college is the tay Sum Lung or Tsan Nyet college which studies Buddhist philosophy with over 700 members.The other five colleges are, Lower Tantra(Gyu-Med), Upper Tantra(Gyu-To), Medicine(Men Ba), Kalachakra(Du-Kor)and Vajra(Jay Dor)have
between 100 to 150 members.Labrang has many palaces, stupas, and other buildings.It covers an area of more than 1,300m2.The buildings are tall and magnificent with gilded tile and red walls.See fro far, the golden roofs sparkle under the sun.The founder of Labrang monastery is the first Jamyang Shadpa.According to the legend, when the 1st Jam Yang Shabpa first went to Lhasa to study, he visited a great statue of the Bodhisattva of wisdom.When he presented a ceremonial scarf(Kadag)to the statue it was suddenly wreathed in smiles.He was thus named Jam Yang Shab Pa.Jam Yang means “Bodhisattva of wisdom” and Shabpa means “smiling”.He was a famous person in Tibet areas.
