My Feeling of Crime and Punishment
This semester, I have read the novel Crime and Punishment.It is a novel which was written by a famous Ruia writer in 1866.During the period, Ruia was ruled by serfdom.Most peasants lived a cold and hungry life.the writer described that Ruian in working cla went through miserable fate.the novel is one of the world litterateurs which strongly disclosed the root of social contradiction and the darkne of capitalism.In the novel, Raskolnikov is the main character.He used to be a student, because of lacking money, he had to leave school.Later he is caught in an extremely difficult situation, but he does not want to be a common man, who just knows about obeying submiively and procreating descendants.That is to say that he do not want to be a live slave.What he wants to be is a remarkable person.If so he can do anything without law and morality restriction.In order to get rid of the poverty, he takes a risk and raises the axe with his shivering hands, killing a practice-usury old woman and her sister.In fact, he doesn’t want to kill her sister, but he can not control the situation.For protecting himself, he must do it.Then he robs her of everything she poeed and run away.From then on, his mentality totally breaks down.Sometimes he wants to give himself up.Owing to many coin accidents, the policemen don’t have conclusive evidences.So he completely escaped from the law sanction.However, he always puts up with condemnation from morality and consciousne.Gradually, he is trapped in extreme anguish.After the case he goes into coma last three days and nights and often dreams a bad dream.He begins to hate everything in the world and becomes nervous, even out of his mind.Then, his mental line of defense is thoroughly breakdown.Finally, he can not bear mental suffering and gives himself up with Sonia’s help, and in the end the crime is in consideration of extenuating circumstances condemned to penal servitude in the second cla for a term of eight years only.But that is the beginning of a new story-the story of his gradual renewal of a man, the story of his gradual regeneration, of his initiation into a new unknown life.In my opinion, Raskolnikov is a poor man.As a matter of fact, the young man is very intelligent.In other words, he should be able to accomplish great things and become an outstanding youth.Just owing to money shortage, he gives up the school for want of means to keep himself and that he has lost his leons and other work.What a grief it is to his mother.We know how his mother loves him.He was all they have to look to, his sister-Dounia and his mother.He is their all, their one hope, their one stay.For sending money to support his tuition, his sister receives a hundred roubles in advance when she takes the place as governe ,on condition of keeping the work until repaying the debt.During that time, she suffers a lot.When the young man knows all the truth, he felt very sad.In his little heart, the money is the root of evil.If he has a lot of money, his life will be different completely.The pawnbroker Alyona Ivanovna, as rich as church mouse, is an awful old harpy.Nearly all the persons hate her.Some persons even have thought that killing
her and taking her money could save dozens of families from destitution, from ruin, from vice.Maybe the young man also believes that for one life thousands will be saved from corruption and decay.It is worthwhile to do it.Especially, before he takes the action, he heard from his mother and knew sister’s marriage decision.He strongly resists sister’s marriage and tries to cancel her marriage.What is worse, he is in a bad health.During the proce of crime, his will remains weakne.After the event, policemen have investigated the case and arrest some suspects.But they do not collect adequate evidences.Later Raskolnikov can not stand up the spiritual torture any more and decide to go to the police station.However, an unexpected thing happened, when the police interrogated him, a man strode into the room and admitted that he was the murderer.It seems to be arranged by god.The god wants to create a means of escape for him.But it has been too stifling, too cramping, and the burden has been too agonizing.In the end, he confees his crime under a girl’s move and inspire.Luzhin is another important character in the novel.The writer vividly portrays a claical character of the capitalist cla.In his opinion, personal interests should surpa everything, and social interests are a kind of abstract interests, so he puts money which can promote his social status on the top of the list.He hopes to find a wife coming from impoverished family.This way, his wife will be deeply grateful to fim for his kindne and be most willing to obey his arrangement.To his fiancée’s brother, he also wants her brother to treat him as a benefactor.But Raskolnikov is not a common man.He clearly understands Luzhin’purpose.Luzhin tries his best to destroy the relation between him and his sister.But his conspiracy is exposed at length.In the novel, the writer incisively depicts a selfish soul.After reading the novel, I admire the protagonist very much.Because he gets the courage to confe his condemn.If I were him, I will keep the secret forever and go to another place where no one knows me.It is impoible for me to have guts go to the police station.Anyway I am not him, and the writer just wants to describe the like of him and then criticize the whole society in Ruia.
