In the Western film and culture appreciation cla, I watched the film Scent of a Woman which left me a deep impreion.The main story is talking about the days a colonel named Frank Slade and a senior school student named Charles Simms spend together.During this time, both of them learn how to understand others and how to get along well with others.They change a lot in their characters and finally find the eence of life which helps them face and solve the problem in their thought and daily life.In the film, Frank Slade is an embittered, lonely, blind man.The first time Charles see him, the colonel sits alone in his room, drinking the alcohol.By the scene showed in the film, we can sense he has always been lonely, but never lonelier than now, when he is trapped inside blindne.He lost his sight late in life, and that even makes him a mean and angry man.He is strict with Charles and always says something that hurts.However, Frank is a strong and honest guy.His most endle blames come from the fact that he can just live his life in the darkne.The unexpected disability makes him confused about the meaning of his remaining life.On the contrary, Charles is a school boy with a high scholarship and full spirit.He is in his perfect age.Although, he comes from a poor family, the excellent grade and hard work let him be a superior person.This time, his job is looking after Frank and spending the thanksgiving with him.It’s not a easy job because Frank has a bad temper.There is no easy way to get close to such a man.It’s a hard time for them to adapt to each other.But finally they appreciate the charming part in each other’s characters.Through the chat, the body language and other things, they realize something they’ve ignored in the past life.Both of them are in a hard situation, compelled to make the difficult choice in life.The colonel has to make the choice about life and death, while the boy has to give up his future or friends.But finally, they all make the decision that they think right.Whatever their decision may lead to, it’s a great succe for them to have the courage to go into future.At last, I’d like to repeat the impreive words Frank says on Charles’ court,’ As l came in here, heard those words:'' radle of leadership.''
