Mona Lisa Smile This film is directed by Mike Newell, a celebrated director who has directed about seventy films, among which there are many claic ones, say, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Donnie Bra.The leading role in this film is Katherine Ann Watson(by Julia Roberts who also played very excellently in Mr.and Mrs.Smith, Mystic Pizza and so on.).This story happened in Maachusetts, US in the 1950s, when feudalistic ideology was still popular among upper cla in America.After graduating from UCLA, Madam Watson desired to make a difference.So she went to Wellesley College, dreaming to be an outstanding profeor.Almost all girls here owned a family of upper cla.What made Madam Watson felt shocked was that the girls’ goal was to marry a so-called succeful husband after their graduation.In other words, even though quite smart and promising, the girls had to follow a cruel tradition: first, finishing college;then, getting married;finally, being a housewife.Madam Watson decided to challenge this tradition as the beginning of her “difference”.At first, every one around her rejected and laughed at her.In their eyes, her behaviors were stupid and in vain.As time went on, the girls were totally moved because of her fresh thoughts, strong belief as well as her courage against authority.After the first semester, the girls were changed: they abandoned the tradition, desired for freshne and lived an independent life.At the same time, Madam Watson decided to leave for Europe, a place fresh to her.The girls respected her as Mona Lisa……
This film shows me the wisdom of quietne, encourages me to taste freshne, and gives me the courage to challenge authority when it is neceary.This film is unfolded in a slow and peaceful way.The ambiance is beautiful and the melody is sluggish.There are no intense or majestic pictures.In some movies, pictures are always wonderful, heroes in the story must be totally world-cla, and events are always related to the existence of humanity or the world.During watching them, our blood is boiling, our hearts are quickly beating and these movies seem to overshadow everything.But after that, they are often quickly out of our sight, because they merely touch our physical sense, not our heart, far le our thoughts.Movies like Mona Lisa Smile are quite different.They stand at a high point of philosophy and emotions.They don’t reveal the key points eagerly.On the contrary, they narrate stories slowly.Their aims are not conquering audience’s senses but touching their sentiment hidden deeply in their heart.During watching them, audiences drink in them naturally and willingly.Also, I always hold such an opinion: sometimes, it is not neceary for us to make a difference in the way which certainly ensures everyone to know that we are heroes.After all, spring rain moistens everything silently.I do appreciate Madam Watson because of her desire for freshne.There are two kinds of life: keeping routine and tasting freshne.Keeping routine means a stable and regular life.However, what make matters worse are that getting accustomed to it and that ignoreing the longing of an adventure life.I used to prefer keeping routine to tasting freshne.But the animated movie, Madagascar changed me.Zebra Marty kept in the zoo, everything in everyday is routine: playing for visitors, eating well-prepared food, and going to bed.Marty is tired of his life and
makes a wish on his birthday party.When he tells the wish to his friends, his eyes are shining.Even though his friends don’t understand him and even think his wish stupid, I am shocked by the shining eyes.More often, we human beings aren’t wiser than this zebra.Because of our advanced brain, we surely know that freshne means changing, mobility, uncertainty, and even agony.So many of us are afraid of freshne and try to avoid it.Compared to our powerful brain, this zebra’s brain is nothing.But it is the le powerful brain that contributes to leading him to wholeheartedly pursue freshne, without any worrying in exce.At the beginning of Mona Lisa Smile, I also see a pair of shining eyes of Madam Watson when she was on the train to Wellesley College.At first, all people were cold to her and life was very hard, and freshne was quite tough for her.Then, with her encouragement, some girls realized that they were able to achieve betterment.Freshne brought Madam Watson some slim hope.Finally, when all girls changed themselves, freshne brought a melody result for Madam Watson.Madam Watson shows us a role modal about tasting freshne: freshne will bring you a better you if you really desire to taste it.I also admire Madam Watson’s courage of challenging unreasonable authority.Sometimes, making a difference confronts us with authority.Insisting ourselves means that there will be much more suspicions and objections.In this film, the authority is the tradition of Wellesley College.In Madam Watson’s eyes, this college constantly provided the same style productions---girls with the same designed life---instead of civilized women.To make matters worse, all people here, including these girls, were proud of this tradition.So, when Madam Watson gave her “heretical” cla, some people thought her funny, crazy, and even silly, because these people regarded this tradition as Golden Rule, which must not be changed or replaced.The rest people, who did agree with Madam Watson, however, decided to keep silent.Because they were ever like Madam Watson when they came here, but they failed, so they entered into an implied contract between Wellesley College and themselves.And this contract ordered the people in Wellesley College to obey its tradition without any suspicions or oblivions.Madam Watson was a law unto herself.She wouldn’t stre the tradition, which was closely related to her position in Wellesley College, over her challenge, which was against this tradition.She set her heart on changing the girls, to the exclusion of everything else.Finally, the objections from the girls turned out to be agreement and admiration.I believe that Madam Watson is a role modal, which will never be out of date.
