Abridgement on the Translation of Enterprise Profiles.The purpose of it is to let foreigners understand better about the company profiles’ information.Due to difference thinking patterns and aesthetic judgment between the Chinese and western people, the problems in the translation of Chinese to English of company profiles are mainly caused by two types of differences between English and Chinese.First is paratactic and hypotactic differences.The Chinese language is paratactic prominence while English is hypotactic prominence.Second is rhetorical difference.The English language strees succinctne while Chinese strees elegance.It is proposed to alter or delete some original meage Where“faithful ”translation of those exceive modifiers，tautology and flowery expreions might result in overloaded or distorted communication of the original intentions.So some repetitive words, jargon, and terms, poetry, high-profile and rhetorical words can be deleted.So for example
1.以上原文是一段公司简介,是典型的“中国人写给中国人看”的文字材料,其中套话、口号式的用语很多,语言形式夸张而且内容空洞。这样的对外宣传材料如果直译成英文,肯定会让西方人觉得滑稽而不可信。因此,翻译时,译者对原文信息做了取舍,转换行文风格,提炼出中心意思,去掉冗长的套话。然后集中意思进行表达,使得译文简洁干练,言之有物,符合英语行文朴素的特征,使读者真正信服中国企业的宣传内容。
译文:××Aluminum(Group)Co., Ltd was founded in 1965.After a four-decade experience of exploration, the company has grown into one of the leading manufacturers of aluminum products in China.It ranks higher in many aspects such as production capacity, technological strength and product varieties.2.对于中国受众来说,这段宣传文字虽然浮夸了点,但也无可厚非,见怪不怪。中国人讲求意合,重整体感悟,喜欢“造势”,烘托气氛。但是,对于西方受众来说,这段文字无非是介绍企业地址,里面有用的信息也只有一条,那就是“xx农业科技股份有限公司位于西安市高新技术开发区”。至于“中国经济的快速发展引起世界关注”,“兵马俑”以及“十三朝古都”等字眼,根本就是牵强赴会或风马牛不相及的。所以,译者在翻译时,大胆发挥了自己的主体性,删掉了没用的信息,这样既有利于外国读者节省时间,也有利于中国企业提高传播效率。
译文(1):××Agricultural Technology Co.,Ltd.is located in Xi’an National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, which is a home for global technologies and some of the World Top 500 enterprises.3.以上这段文字是中国企业宣传资料中的典型,中国人特有的权利崇拜意识在这段文字中暴露无遗。在翻译这段文字时,只翻译了第一句,而将其他繁杂内容全部删除了。
译文:The local governments at all levels have been offering great support for the development of the company.4.这段原文来自于一家电力公司的招商引资宣传材料。中国企业在宣传自己的实力时往往把组织规模、员工数量、企业业绩、获奖项目等信息一一列出,而西方人则更注重与客户的直接对话,往往把重点放在如何给客户提供满意的产品和服务上,他们所关心的不是这个企业获得了多少奖项和称号;更何况,由于这些奖项、称号大多跟中国特有的历史文化背景和政治经济制度有关,他们很难理解其字面意义,也体会不到它们到底有多大说服力,以及对该企业有多大意义。所以,翻译时,译者应根据目标受众的特点,对原文的宣传内容进行浓缩,概括出其中心思想即可,从而避免译文内容堆砌罗列,也避免西方受众看后一头雾水、不知所云。
译文:Thanks to the great achievements it has made, ××Electric Power Corporation has won a lot of honorable titles and awards over these years such as “Model Enterprise for Contract-Fulfilling and Good Credit-Standing”, “Top Grade Tax Contributor” and “May Day Labor Award”.5.The Nanjing Chemical Plant, specializes in making toothpastes, and has a production capacity of eighty million tubes a year.It prides itself on a history for nearly forty years and its present position of ranking among the top enterprises of toothpaste-making in Jiangsu Province.“轻工部定点生产牙膏的中型企业，现为省级企业”.轻工部是让外国读者感到陌生的机构，无法给人权威的感觉，删去。
6.The Sixth China Xiamen Commodity Fair & Machinery and Electronics Exhibition
在汉语语境下此次展销会主要目的是促进台湾和中国大陆的经济交流，所以原文强调“对台”、“海峡两岸”字样。但是主办方也邀请了一些欧美客户参加此次展销会，如果译文不删减“对台”、“海峡两岸”这些词语则会使欧美客户望而却步，无法实现目标文本的预期功能。

上述三例的汉语原文读起来没有什么不妥，前后两组意义大同小异。在译文中，只要清楚表达了原意，其中一组可以删去不译，也就避免了同一句中意义多次重复的现象。
4． 原文的铺排实为渲染气氛，略带强调，但如译文再加上without stop则显得多余。所对应的译文干脆舍弃“强调”，将意义饱满地传达出来。1
