He that Loves a Rosy Cheek
He that loves a rosy cheek
Or a coral lip admires,
Or from star-like eyes doth seek
Fuel to maintain his fires；
As old Time makes these decay,
So his flames must waste away.
But a smooth and steadfast mind,
Gentle thoughts, and calm desires,
Hearts with equal love combined,
Kindle never-dying fires：---
Where these are not, I despise
Lovely cheeks or lips or eyes．
美与爱

外表的容颜不值分文。
托马斯·卡鲁(Thomas Carew1595—1654)英国诗人 爱美之心人皆有之。但美并不只是外表的容颜,更重要的是内在的心灵。这首诗表达了诗人对美与爱的独特思考；前一小节是反面的铺垫,后一小节是精切的妙语。 其中 “真美是柔情似水，真爱是心心相萤的诗行是思想的凝练, 也是诗的旨趣所在。
