The Whole Procedure to Apply for The Exchange Visitor(J-1)Program
The Exchange Visitor(J-1)Program, under the oversight of the United States Department of State, is designed to bring non-immigrants into the United States for temporary visits(usually 3 years or le)as students, trainees, teachers, researchers, profeors, scholars, etc.At the conclusion of their J-1 program, most exchange visitors are required to return to their home country for two years
Here is the procedure to apply for the exchange scholar program:
Step 1: Apply
1.Prepare a copy of the resume or curriculum vitae, and a cover letter.2.Find the profeor you are interested in and submit your resume and the cover letter to request for the offer.3.If the faculty member agrees to accept you, need him/her complete application requesting form DS-2019:(The faculty member, not the prospective exchange visitor, should complete all sections and then secure approval from the Department Head and the Academic Dean.)4.Purchase required Medical Insurance from designated company.Step 2: Approval
After you are approved, the Form DS-2019 will be iued and mailed to you with the following attachments for you to apply for the visa:
1.An invitation letter and a training plan.2.Financial support documents(Attach an original letter of support or an original bank letter.The letter must be typed on letterhead, show the exchange visitor’s name, the dates of sponsorships, the specific dollar amount in US dollars to be signed in the original application with a current date, the estimate of living expenses for EXCHANGE VISITOR: $1,500/month, SPOUSE: $600/month EACH CHILD: $400/month).3.Completed Medical Insurance enrollment form with payment or copy
Step 3: Visa:
Make an appointment with the nearest US consulate to get the Visa.Step 4: Arrival:
When the exchange visitor arrives, please NOTIFY ISSS WITH FORM DS-2019, PASSPORT AND I-94.A local addre must be provided and the record must be activated prior to the completion date on the form DS-2019.Step 5: Notice of Departure:
When the exchange visitor completes the program objective or terminates his or her program, please notify ISSS in writing by fax or e-mail.
