My Favourite English Newspaper
There is an old saying“Books are the ever burning lamps of a accumulated wisdom.” From the proverbs ,we can know that the books play an eential role in our life.Now newspapers ,I regard, have the same function compared with the books.Additionally it is no exaggeration to say that in the society with material abundance but lack of the thirst for knowledge is terrible and lamentable.Society requires talents ,maybe books are too long to persevere on, but we can read newspapers.Newspapers are an encyclopedia of current events, making us acquainted with the world, widening our scope of knowledge.In my perspective, we the English major students are exceedingly laborious.We should practice how to expre ourselves allodially , exercising the ability of hearing, facing an army of unknown questions and reciting increasing vocabularies everyday.Consequently , we have no time to watch TV news.However ,we must read an abundant English materials enhancing our ability.Accordingly, reading English newspapers becomes the sample and convenient way for us to acquire the goal.At the same time our knowledge will be well enriched ,and our horizons will be greatly broadened by reading English newspaper.Maybe, some people will ask why you read the English newspapers instead of the English original novels improving your ability.Reading cautiously such a book will cost our too much time.And the English original novels is to me what the puzzles is to idiocy., if we can't totally understand the backgrounds of the novel.Therefore ,reading newspaper is a perfect choice.Now ,let me introduce my outstanding friend the 21st Century English newspaper.She is a fashionable girl.(The articles always keep pace with the times).She has her own individual characters.(The contends of the newspapers are different from others)She has an army of knowledge.(The materials of the newspapers are plentiful, including current events, entertainment news, controversial iues ,buzzwords , the sports wold and so on.)She is a girl with claical feelings,who likes poetries.(Sometimes, the newspaper will print some small English poetries, which is my favourite.I like poetry, i think ,poetry plugs the wings of imagination and takes me to fly.Besides , reading poetry is more easy for me to study the English than the original novel.Last , i can practice the ability of transition and comprehension by comparing the printed version with my own.)She is considerate(Although i am an English major student, i can't read the whole article without consulting the dictonary.Therefore, there are several difficult words given interpretations and marked with levels ,such as, TOEFL, IELTS ,CET-4,CET-6, all of them at the bottom of the articles.)
However ,no one is perfect.There are some shortcomings.First , the articles of football players are very dull, especially the large names ,the unfamiliar team names ,which make me confused and almost lose confidence to read them thoroughly.Second , some eays take too much space of the newspapers, for example, the stories about furthering study aboard, which occupy the three layout of the article.From my part ,there is no need to take such long time to describe the story because all of them are the same.All in all , the 21st Century English newspaper is my favorite, meanwhile i expect there will be increasing excellent articles.There is an old Chinese saying: “A scholar need not leave his home to know what's going on in the world.” While newspapers do not carry the latest, up-to-the minute world news, which give us a great deal of useful knowledge.I hope every one likes reading newspapers.
